October Chapter Newsletter Print

From the Desk of . . .

I've had the pleasure of meeting some of you at our Chapter Meetings, while others I've met through the phone or email.   In all cases, it has been so exciting to get to know the members of this Chapter, to learn more about NARI, and to be a part of team working to raise the awareness of using quality remodeling professionals on their projects.

Recently one of our members, David Stern of David Stern CFO (joined in 2016) sent in this note:

"To be honest, this is the first trade association I have stuck with and been committed to. The people brought me in -- everyone was very welcoming -- and kept me coming back. And then over time, and this surprised me, I realized I was learning a lot just by showing up, talking with other members, listening to the presenters, learning about NARI national offerings, etc. Both explicit learning and implicit learning -- getting a feeling for the concerns of contractors and suppliers, what they care about. The consistency is key: unless I'm out of town, I just keep showing up, and to good effect."

I wanted to share this because, for me, this is how I'm learning about NARI as well. It is in talking to you at meetings and listening to the engaging conversations going on around me.  Now, I want to be able to share this with prospective members so they, too, can see the value of being a part of an organization with the tag-line: Remodeling Done Right!

If you have anyone you'd like me to contact or send information to, please reach out. Both our Executive Director, Brenda Kress, and I are committed to helping this organization grow so that we have a great presence in the San Francisco Bay Area!

I hope to see you at the Interiors California: Taste-Eat-Talk this month.

The Silly Season; CSLB Contracts

The British press (even more than the United States press) has a “silly season” in the
summer. When ordinary news get slow (which is hard to imagine these days), the press simply makes up stories. Or takes an odd or poignant story and fluffs it.

The classic British silly season story is the lost parakeet. READ FULL ARTICLE
